Almost everything now is digitized from computer files, photos, audio or music files and video files. This simply means that almost all consumer electronics products now work with each other and can share data seamlessly. Examples are cellular phones, digital cameras, desktops and laptops that can transfer data from one device to another without the need to convert that data to another format.
This convergence was predicted by Bill Gates more than a decade ago but it is only now that technology has made everything possible. A DVR digital tuner, for example, most likely will work with any brand of a digital video recorder because the chip sets are manufactured most likely by one design maker or factory. So do not worry if your DVR digital tuner will work on a Sony or on Philips. Most likely it will work.
The current craze of home electronics enthusiasts is the digital satellite tuner. This apparently simply device will work with a satellite dish to capture satellite programs over the air. It is like piracy but not quite. You just do not have to pay any subscription fees. For this to work, your TV set must have a digital satellite tuner inside it.
As the American television industry is mandated to convert to fully digital programming by June this year, it is imperative that you have bought already HD digital tuners for your TV sets at home, if you have several of them. Otherwise, the government will provide you the money to buy one. Checks are being mailed but some TV stations are not ready yet for the digital conversion so the deadline may have to be moved back. HD digital tuners are needed because by going digital, precious broadcasting frequencies are freed up for more important uses such as police, fire and emergency rescue services.
Most people prefer to have a dual digital tuner. It is a piece of wafer chip that allows splitting of digital television signals similar to a splitter. The dual digital tuner allows you to view different programs in two separate television sets because each is pre-set to a different output channel.
A digital tuner recorder will allow you to receive and record digital programs very easily. It is built-in and integrated with most of your products such as set-top boxes, VCRs and TV sets.
